Here is the BANG! Podcast review that you have been waiting for.
Did you learn a good sex education as you grew up? Are you currently in your twenties or thirties, the time you date and be intimate with your partner? Or, are you currently a parent trying to ask for advice on how to talk to your children about sex? There are many circumstances in life where sex is associated, and it is part of our lives as human beings. No matter how you try to hide from it or keep it private, there are times when you will need to talk about it to fully grasp the concepts and learn more about yourself and others around you.
A Glimpse Of BANG! Podcast
BANG! is a New Zealand sex podcast created by a freelance writer, Melody Thomas. The idea came from listening to Dan Savage’s podcast, The Savage Love, where she is inspired to talk about conversations that most people shy from, sex.
The ultimate goal of the show is to normalize the conversations around sex. And this includes discussing sexuality and relationships. Ranging from The Birds and The Bees talk as their first episode until sex positivity, they are in season 3 currently. There is much to know about these topics. The podcast never holds back to these topics where you will learn about experiences, important topics meant to be discussed, sex education, and more.
From time to time, the podcast features guests that have a lot to say on the topic. Regardless if they are there to talk about their experiences and share them with us or talk about what they stand for. Melody was initially surprised by how people could be straightforward with this topic. It is a delight that she has given this platform a chance to normalize these topics that are a big part of our lives.
Reasons Why You Should Listen To This Podcast
Undeniably, there is so much to love about BANG! Podcast. Even as a working adult, you will learn more about your sexuality and yourself when you listen. Having to talk about sex with a mostly conservative country is refreshing to listen to. At the same time, exploration of this topic used to never come easy, but the podcast’s concept of normalizing it shows how far we have come.
Another noteworthy mention is Melody’s exceptional hosting skills. She’s great at what she does. As a writer, Melody asks the right questions when interviewing her guests. Even when she is alone, you can see that the topics she discusses are well-outlined and full of knowledge. In the first episode, the podcast discusses the importance of sex education. There is a lot to unpack there, from how much some people are ashamed to talk about it and how much it affects the youth of New Zealanders and people around the world.
Regardless of your age, you will enjoy the podcast that brings something new to the table. The conversations are free-flowing, and you will love every commentary of the host and the guests. Moreover, the whole podcast gives a feeling of talking to people you adore in one room, where you can be in an inviting, cozy, and engaging conversation.
The honest conversations around sex and relationships show that it is not too hard to talk about sex, after all.
What Could Use Improvement
Unfortunately, the podcast has its small setbacks, too. Most of it comes from different opinions of people around sex and relationships. Some may find varying opinions regarding topics like non-monogamy. These topics are still controversial to most, and people may not have the same opinions as the hosts have shared.
As time passes, the podcast focuses on female sex positivity, leading mostly with female guests/hosts. Although this is not a setback per se, some people may not be their target audience. Thus leading to a smaller pool audience for the podcast. In my opinion, regardless of gender, you will still enjoy the pod so long as you will keep an open mind.
At the same time, the podcast is only limited to platforms which may lead to a smaller audience having to access the podcast.
