There’s something timeless about bedtime stories—the way they comforted us as children, sparking imagination and wrapping us in a sense of safety. But what if those same stories could also reignite the creative fire in adults, offering solace to artists, writers, and dreamers who’ve lost their way? Sleepless Creatives is a podcast that does just that, weaving soothing narratives to remind weary creatives why their work matters.

Does this sound like the encouragement you’ve been missing? Keep reading to discover how these bedtime stories can help you fall back in love with your craft—one gentle tale at a time.

What Sleepless Creatives Is All About

The Sleepless Creatives podcast is a platform designed to cater specifically to performers and creators. Hosted by Florence St Leger and produced by Canary Studios, this bedtime podcast aims to help creatives drift off to sleep while listening to the words they love to perform. The idea for this comforting audio experience was born during the first lockdown when many actors, directors, writers and other creative individuals expressed their anxiety and fear of losing their spark or hope in their industry.

Sleepless Creatives is more than just a soothing narration; it seeks to help these individuals reconnect with their passion for creativity. It takes inspiration from an advice given often in drama schools: ‘if you’re feeling stuck, go back to your script and look at the words – there’s nothing wrong with that’. This principle can also be applied in our lives as people when we feel lost or disconnected.

This podcast came into being after Florence discovered Dreamful – a children’s bedtime Podcast which she found immensely helpful during her own struggles with sleep. She then decided that she wanted something similar but tailored especially for creators like herself. Thus, Sleepless Creatives was born – a bedtime podcast created by creators for creators, aiming at bringing them closer to the text and words they cherish.

Listeners can expect episodes on various themes such as “The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow”, “Don Quixote”, along with selections of poetry, both in Cantonese and English, among others.

Florence St Leger, sleepless creatives hostWho is Florence St Leger

Florence St Leger, the engaging host of Sleepless Creatives podcast, hails from Bristol in the United Kingdom. She is an accomplished actor, voice actor and writer who trained at Fourth Monkey Actor Training Company in London. This experience helped her deepen her love for words and language and truly comprehend their inherent beauty.

With several years of experience under her belt in this industry, Florence has a knack for infusing each role she takes on with a blend of vulnerability and authenticity. Her training in motion capture technology complements her natural comedic talent and character work.

As a flexible performer, Florence effortlessly responds to any direction while remaining true to her creative essence. Outside of work, she leads a contented life in Leeds, Yorkshire, with Teacake – her beloved rescue cat.

In addition to being professionally skilled, it’s important to highlight that Florence identifies as Neurodivergent and Non-Binary. As part of the Queer community too; these aspects not only shape who she is personally but also influence how she approaches artistry.

What I Like About The Sleepless Creatives Podcast

Sleepless Creatives podcast is nothing short of a tranquil haven for those seeking some relaxation before drifting off to sleep. I particularly adore the way Florence, our wonderful host, sets up the ambiance by granting us time to settle down and get comfortable. The pause she takes before starting each bedtime story only adds more value as it builds anticipation. Her narration is top-notch – soothing yet interesting enough to keep you engaged in the narrative.

The cherry on top has to be her knack for doing different voices, which brings characters alive, making these stories even more captivating. The carefully chosen mellow piano music playing softly in the background further enhances this calming atmosphere. Although it’s primarily targeted towards performers and creators, I believe anyone can benefit from this podcast. It’s especially useful for those battling insomnia or simply wanting some quiet downtime after an exhausting day.

What seals the deal are guest appearances by other narrators that add fresh perspectives and make every episode unique in its own way! While outros are typically expected in podcasts, their absence here doesn’t detract from my enjoyment; rather, it offers a seamless transition into sleep post-storytelling.

So if you’re looking for something comforting at bedtime or just want your daily dose of tranquility, then Sleepless Creatives podcast should definitely be on your list!
