What do you look for in a true crime podcast? Do you perhaps like to listen to banters and commentaries of the narrators? Or, maybe you seek exceptional storytelling with specific information? Both are fine to me as long as the execution is well done. But to tell you the truth, the host, an anonymous person who started this gem of a podcast called Casefile Podcast, has one of my favorite approaches to narrating true crime stories.
About Casefile Podcast
Casefile started in January 2016, and the podcast won several awards and gained recognition, especially with the true crime community. The podcast has in-depth content and straight to a point style where the host essentially tells the story as if he is narrating a story from a book. His timber is factual and no-nonsense and makes the point across as much as possible. It has been exciting, and the podcast has been covering different crimes, whether it is solved or unsolved, for years.
The podcast was first based in Australia and started with its famous anonymous host. Then eventually, he gained a team with him who helps him out now with production, writing, and everything else. The host, also known as Casey to fans, remained anonymous even until today. He intends to remain anonymous since he wants to highlight the people’s stories and does not want to overshadow them, which I give a big thumbs up to.
What Do I Enjoy On The Casefile Podcast?
Casefile is the type of podcast I am looking for if I am eager to know about the significant details of a case. They provide quality narration, and most would consider it the best true crime podcast. It is always well-researched and just what you need to know. Even if the case is jam-packed with information or a small case, the stories are always covered well.
Speaking of narration, the host’s voice is neutral, and it is important to note that he does not give his opinions or provide any commentaries, which is sometimes rare in these kinds of podcasts. Some people enjoy the narration of these stories that only focus on the story. I have certain moods where I prefer one more than the other, especially since the topics may be too gruesome or sensitive to talk about.
This podcast has no glorification or any spin on the story. They do this while still paying respects to the victims of the crime. Another thing to love about the podcast is knowing new cases that I had never heard of before. When checking out popular podcasts, you would be familiar with the well-known cases already. I would listen to them again usually, even if I had heard them before. Since different podcasts give different takes and execution. However, since the narrator of this podcast is from Australia, there has been an influx of cases I have not known before, and it gives me the thrill.
What My Least Favorite From The Podcast?
With the gradual popularity of the show, there would inevitably be changes in the podcast. One big change they made is a “paywall” for the podcast. Although it may be necessary to sustain the podcast, some loyal supporters of Casefile did not like that some episodes had to be paid to be able to hear them. I understand the fans’ and the team’s sentiments about this, and these things may also change in the future. Who knows? Even if some people love the forthright way, some people may not enjoy the host’s way of narration.
They may find it boring or too monotonous. Also, as we have mentioned above, Casey does not give his outright opinion and only relies on his narration to keep the story flowing. This may not sit well for some, and they would rather listen to a podcast where narration and opinions are given and challenged.
Final Verdict
I love the Casefile Podcast and would certainly check out their latest episodes from time to time. I think you would love it too if you are the type who seeks well-written. This is a serious narration with the true crime story you have been trying to listen to. The podcast is also one of the best when it comes to listening to compelling new stories you have wanted to explore.
