This is the case that The Teacher’s Pet Podcast thoroughly presented. The Teacher’s Pet talks about the sudden disappearance of Lyn Dawson in 1982. She was 33 when she went missing, and her case was sadly not looked into then. More than three decades later, Hedley Thomas started this stellar podcast to investigate what truly happened. Thomas is a journalist for an Australian newspaper, and his rigorous investigation led him to several discoveries that exposed the pandora’s box regarding this mystery and so much more.
What Happened To The Teacher’s Pet Podcast?
One by one, the secrets that will give you goosebumps start to unfold throughout the story. Chris, Lyn’s husband, said that she left to join a religious cult. But with Thomas’s in-depth probing of what happened several years ago, we found out several things, such as the nature of how he groomed his students like Joanne Curtis, a sixteen-year-old student of his who he had been in a relationship with before Lyn went missing.
The information was both distasteful and horrific. Chris had an extremely close relationship with Paul, his twin brother. As it turned out, they indulged in the sinister crime of grooming their female students in Cromer High School, where they were both footballers and high school teachers.
The podcast achieved so much of what everyone hoped for. For one, because of the well-detailed information and publicity, this ‘cold case’ gave a voice to Lyn’s suspicious disappearance and paved the way for the police to look into the case again. The podcast also opened up about the sexual abuse in Cromer High School.
What Do I Like About The Teacher’s Pet?
The Teacher’s Pet might not be the best true crime podcast for me, but I truly respect the cause of this project. The show’s main purpose is to give light on Lyn’s case, and it has done its purpose exceptionally well. Thomas’s investigation was meticulous, and he disclosed information that the police had never bothered to look into before the podcast. His compassion for the victim and his will to find the truth made waves so that justice would be served.
I am in awe at the movement that the podcast has created. So that Lyn will finally be given the justice she deserves. He has also given a platform so that the victims of the sexual misconduct in Cromer High School could voice out their experiences, too.
What Do I Not?
One of the things that you would notice in The Teacher’s Pet Podcast is its quite repetitive narration. I totally understand that this may get bothersome later on. Since some information was used again and again throughout the whole story.
It is possible that the purpose of the repetition is to make a point of how everything in this case had been suspicious. After all, Thomas was still in the process of gathering information when the podcast aired. Many argued that the story could have been more condensed instead of dragged on for 10+ episodes. I understand these sentiments, too. I believe that Thomas would have made much more compelling storytelling if the information were concise but full of relevant information.
Although, I get the point of prolonging the story so it could lead to much more noise for the public, which is its very purpose in the first place.
Final Thoughts
The Teacher’s Pet is a must-listen true crime podcast worth your time. Even though the podcast has its minor setbacks, such as its tendency to be repetitive. It still contains a fascinating narration that will give you the chills. The fascination and horror that you will feel while listening is as good as it gets. At the same time, the podcast had made waves in creating a voice for a victim, which is one of the reasons I listen to true crime podcasts.
